Employee Spotlight – Brian Bourgault

October 23, 2019 | Jonathan Pryer

What does a typical day look like for you and what are you currently working on?

A typical day is architecting custom demos with new and existing features of Provenir, filling out RFPs, giving Webex demos and meeting with clients onsite to give live demos of the Provenir solution.

What three words would you use to describe your role?

Sales, Solutions, Evangelist.

What’s your favorite part of your job?

Wowing potential clients with demos that show off the power of Provenir through solutions.

If you could choose anyone, who would you pick as your mentor?

Pat Metheny (Jazz Guitarist), I went to Berklee College of Music after being accepted to engineering schools as well. I met Pat while he was teaching at Berklee. Even though I left Berklee to go to engineering school for Computer Science Masters & an MBA, his work ethic and discipline of always practicing and learning while doing what you love has been at the cornerstone of who I am today. In addition, his commitment to his social mission “The Metheny Music Foundation” has been a great inspiration for me to give back and maintain my social mission at a national level.

What’s the best piece of advice you ever received?

My first job in the software industry was for a small start-up company. The CEO interviewed me and quoted (Mary Kay Cosmetics), “There are three types of people. Those who make things happen, those who watch things happen and those who wonder what happened. In a small company it becomes quickly apparent to everyone which one you are…”. His advice has stayed with me throughout my career.

What are the most exciting developments/opportunities you’re seeing in the industry?

Financial Services is no longer a stale stagnate place for technologists and scientists. FinTech is now driving advancement in Financial Services. The industry has changed overnight and Provenir has the incredible opportunity to work with both Financial Services companies who are now embracing FinTech, and the pure FinTech startups, who demand the highest level of technical competence and Temporal Currency. And by Temporal Currency, I mean being worldly in your experience and history, and current in your knowledge and skills.

What is your biggest achievement to date – personal or professional?

Professionally – I was the only US Sales/Solution person for a 9-person startup software company. In that role I sold the solution to BlackRock, which then acquired the company!

Personally – I’m on the Board of Directors for the American Liver Foundation and every year I travel to Washington D.C. to advocate for funding and health-related legislation. This year after advocating for the “Living Donor Protection Act of 2019,” I was recognized by my state representative, Jim McGovern who co-sponsored the bill based on my efforts to bring awareness to him and his team. I also received the “Advocacy Impact Award” from the ALF. #liveradvocate
